APHRODITE

File-NAMA_Aphrodite_Syracuse.jpg

Aphrodite is the goddess of love beauty and desire. Her symbols include the rose, scallop shell, and myrtle wreath. Her sacred animal is the dove. She is considered to have been born when Cronus cut off Uranus' genitals and threw them into the sea, and from the sea foam (aphros) arose Aphrodite. That makes Aphrodite older than Zeus. Aphrodite is also believed to have been the lover and surrogate mother of Adonis

  1. Aphrodite is by far my favorite Goddess. She is completely comfortable in her own skin and she has no problem flaunting it. What I like most about the depictions of her is that she is not a size 0. In fact in the majority of the depictions of her, Aphrodite is plump. Whether that is because artists in the past could not draw really skinny females or because beautiful women in the past were rounder around the middle is not clear.
